The Boys Season 5 Is More Realistic Than Ever, But Still Won't Say One Name

Warning: This article contains spoilers for “The Boys” Season 5, Episode 2 – “Teenage Kix.”

Prime Video’s edgy superhero series “The Boys” has a knack for blending its outlandish narrative with elements that mirror our reality. By infusing real-life figures and technologies into its storyline, the show creates a world that feels eerily familiar, albeit with a splash of Compound V. In the early episodes of Season 5, the show wastes no time in reminding viewers of its real-world connections. Characters like Kimiko, played by Karen Fukuhara, use platforms such as TikTok to relearn how to speak. Meanwhile, familiar names like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Martin Shkreli, the Obamas, Coachella, Tyler the Creator, and even Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” find their way into the dialogue.

Despite these numerous nods to reality, one prominent figure remains conspicuously unnamed: Donald Trump. “The Boys” has a history of drawing parallels with Trump, particularly through its character Homelander, who has donned sneakers poking fun at the former president. Trump’s influence even altered the Season 4 finale, which included an assassination attempt on him in 2024. Eric Kripke’s series has never been subtle in its Trump-related satire, yet it has refrained from explicitly naming him. With early mentions of influential figures like Elon Musk and Barack Obama, who have had notable interactions with Trump, speculation abounds that “The Boys” might finally make a direct reference before the series concludes.

Some might argue that “The Boys” doesn’t need to name Trump directly since Homelander effectively embodies a Trump-like character. Season 4 saw Homelander fully embrace his role as a populist right-wing icon, rendering the real Trump unnecessary within the show’s universe. However, the absence of a direct Trump reference might disappoint viewers, especially considering the inclusion of other public figures like Musk and Obama.

“The Boys” has always been unabashedly bold in its storytelling, tackling social and political themes head-on. As the series approaches its final episodes, it’s poised to push boundaries even further. Fans should brace themselves for the possibility of any surprise, including that long-awaited Trump mention.

The Boys has a home-grown version of Donald Trump

“The Boys” Season 5 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.

“The Boys” has rarely shied away from wearing its heart on its sleeve, and the president is a subject it has danced around for a pretty long time now. While there are lots of superhero media references peppered into the story, the series has also leaned into social and political commentary, becoming better known for the latter. It’s the final season, so it’s very likely that the show intends to truly put the pedal to the metal. Knowing this, viewers should probably be ready for anything — even that elusive Trump reference.
