The Boys Season 5 Leaves All The Critics Stunned

As the real world spirals into its own chaos and absurdity, it seems fitting for “The Boys” to wrap up after five seasons. The decision to conclude the series at this point is partly due to the symbolic roundness of the number, but more importantly, the show is exiting on a high note. Critics are showering the final season with accolades. For an overview of the glowing reviews, check out Looper’s video above.

Looper’s analysis of “The Boys” Season 5 applauds it for delivering the series’ most audacious satire yet. The conclusion of Season 4 left us with Homelander (played by Antony Starr) ascending as the effective leader of the United States, targeting dissenters of both his rule and the influential Vought Corporation. Season 4 delved into the January 6 insurrection and the deepening political divides, but Season 5 reportedly amplifies these themes even further. Remarkably, the writers anticipated these developments before the 2024 presidential election, lending the new season an uncanny relevance.

At the time of reporting, “The Boys” Season 5 boasts an impressive 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, blending outrageous humor with sharp social commentary. Alison Herman from Variety remarked, “Each burst of blood and cascade of guts serves as a much-needed release, especially when the victory of good over evil feels more elusive than ever, both on and off screen.” Meanwhile, Nick Schager of The Daily Beast observed that the series “wildly races to its conclusion with a blend of confidence and madness.” If past seasons resonated with you, Season 5 is set to be a thrilling continuation.

It’s worth mentioning that critics have only previewed seven of the final eight episodes of “The Boys” Season 5. This leaves an air of mystery about the ultimate conclusion, and there’s always a chance it might not stick the landing. However, it seems unlikely that the show would squander the goodwill it has cultivated over the years. Bob Strauss of The Wrap suggests that regardless of its final moments, “The Boys” will secure its place in television’s hall of fame: “While this season followed a formula, it was infused with enough brilliance to affirm the show’s significant contribution to TV history. Kripke and his team have a deep understanding of their narrative’s relevance and its necessity in our era.” Some critics and viewers have noted a repetitive streak in recent seasons, so concluding the series now is a timely decision.

Katie Doll from CBR commended “The Boys” for maintaining its focus on its satirical targets: “It seemed impossible, but the final season of ‘The Boys’ mirrors contemporary America more than any prior season, crafting a darkly comedic and ingenious narrative.” Although the show is ending, the spectacle of American politics endures, with spinoffs of “The Boys” promising to keep poking fun at it. The big questions remain: Will the Boys prevail? Can Homelander continue his reign? We don’t have the answers yet, but our video above will show you why there’s excitement in the air for the final season of “The Boys.”

The Boys Season 5 is the perfect show for American culture right now

It’s important to note that critics only received seven out of the final eight episodes of “The Boys” Season 5. That means no one is quite sure how everything plays out, so for all we know, “The Boys” could completely blow it and end up on the list of the worst TV series finales of all time.

But it’s hard to imagine the show ruining all of the goodwill it’s built up over the years. Bob Strauss of The Wrap makes it sound like no matter how it ends, “The Boys” will be remembered fondly: “This season was formulaic, sure, but possessed enough brilliance to confirm the show’s outstanding place in television history. Kripke and company display a crucial understanding of what their story means, what can be done with it and why it was so necessary to tell it in our time.” One complaint some critics and audiences have had about the past couple of seasons of “The Boys” is that they’ve felt too repetitive, so it’s probably for the best we reach the endgame at this point.

Katie Doll of CBR praised “The Boys” for never losing sight of its central satirical target: “It didn’t seem possible, but ‘The Boys’ final season resembles America at present more than any other season, creating a grim story that is equally ridiculous and brilliant.” “The Boys” may be ending, but the circus that is American politics will continue. Luckily, there are still spinoffs of “The Boys” to skewer all that. Will the titular Boys win? Is Homelander going to find a way to survive? We can’t say for sure yet, but watch our video above to see why you should be very excited for Season 5 of “The Boys.”
