After successfully running for five seasons, “9-1-1: Lone Star” is concluding due to financial constraints. The announcement, a decision long anticipated, was confirmed by co-creator Ryan Murphy in October 2024 when he informed Variety, “Unfortunately, although we all adore ‘Lone Star,’ the financials didn’t align. Being a Disney production airing on a Fox network, it was destined not to last.”
The series will be missed by many devoted fans, but unlike numerous canceled shows, it has been afforded the chance to conclude in a manner that offers meaningful closure. After five engaging years with Austin’s 126 crew, the show ended with them skillfully preventing a disaster involving an asteroid-linked reactor meltdown. This finale allowed characters to transition into the next chapters of their lives, with Judd (Jim Parrack) stepping into the role of captain as Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) moves to New York, much later than fans initially feared he would leave.
A new 9-1-1 series is coming in 2026
With “9-1-1: Lone Star” drawing to a conclusion, a fresh series in the “9-1-1” franchise is set to launch: “9-1-1 Nashville.” This new installment is scheduled to debut on ABC on October 9, 2025, featuring Chris O’Donnell as Captain Don Sharpe, a retired rodeo rider and veteran firefighter. He’ll be joined by Jessica Capshaw, who portrays his wife, Blythe Ward. Adding to the cast are country singer LeAnn Rimes as Dixie and Hunter McVey as her son, Blue Bennings. Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost, and Juani Feliz will complete the roster of first responders.
Details about the new series are still emerging, but the premiere episode is set to include country music artist Kane Brown. As reported by Variety, the episode will appropriately feature a musical performance. As for Kane’s fate within the episode, we’ll have to wait until fall to see how things unfold. Meanwhile, fans can revisit “9-1-1: Lone Star,” reliving moments from its most acclaimed episodes.
