Warning: Spoilers Ahead for “Boston Blue” Season 1, Episode 3 — “History”
Love seems to be in the air for the Silver family in the latest episode of “Boston Blue,” and Sarah Silver (played by Maggie Lawson) is no exception. In this episode, viewers are introduced to her boyfriend, Seth (portrayed by Mike Vogel), a charming single father who clearly enjoys spending time with Sarah. He even goes as far as asking her to move in with him.
However, there’s a hitch in their budding romance—Seth’s teenage daughter, Phoebe (played by Matia Jackett), harbors a strong dislike for Sarah. Determined to win Phoebe over, Sarah faces a challenge when she catches Phoebe at a party where underage drinking is taking place. This results in Phoebe having to perform community service, but eventually, they reconcile, and Sarah starts to warm up to the idea of moving in with Seth and Phoebe.
If Seth’s face seems familiar, it’s because Mike Vogel boasts an extensive acting career. Many might remember him as Johnny Foote, the attractive husband of Celia (Jessica Chastain) in “The Help.” Vogel has also played significant roles such as Jason in “Cloverfield” and Cooper in Netflix’s “Sex/Life.” His impressive career spans roles both on the silver screen and television from the early 2000s to the present.
Vogel’s acting journey began in 2001, as he took on the role of Dean, Lily’s (Lynsey Bartilson) boyfriend, in The WB sitcom “Grounded for Life,” which he was a part of for three seasons. During his tenure on the show, he expanded his film portfolio with supporting roles in the 2003 “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” “Rumor Has It…,” and “Poseidon.” He even auditioned for the iconic role of James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot but ultimately lost out to Chris Pine.
On television, Vogel has appeared in various roles, including Dean in “Pan Am,” Zack Shelby in the first season of “Bates Motel,” Dale in “Under the Dome,” and Adam in “The Brave,” before landing the role of Seth. Currently, Vogel is set to play Bill Boltz in the upcoming Prime Video series “Scarpetta,” featuring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. While this might suggest complications for Sarah and Seth’s relationship in “Boston Blue,” fans will have to stay tuned to see how their story unfolds as Vogel’s acting career continues to flourish.
Mike Vogel has a very deep resume
Mike Vogel got his acting start all the way back in 2001, when he started playing Lily’s (Lynsey Bartilson) swain, Dean, on The WB sitcom “Grounded for Life.” The gig lasted for three seasons, and while he appeared on that show he continued to beef up his big screen experience by popping up in supporting roles in the 2003 version of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” “Rumor Has It…” and “Poseidon.” He was even up for the role of James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted “Star Trek” films, but lost the part to Chris Pine.
On the small screen, Vogel went on to show up as Dean in “Pan Am,” Zack Shelby in Season 1 of “Bates Motel,” Dale in “Under the Dome” and Adam in “The Brave” before taking on the role of Seth. Vogel’s also got an interesting project currently on his plate as of this writing; he’ll be playing Bill Boltz in Prime Video’s upcoming series “Scarpetta,” which features Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. That might be a bad sign for Sarah and Seth’s “Boston Blue” romance, but audiences will have to keep their eyes peeled to see what develops between the couple as Vogel’s ever-busy acting career moves along.
