Spoilers for “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come”

For most of 2019’s “Ready or Not,” audiences were left questioning the existence of Mr. Le Bail. The film’s conclusion decisively answers this, revealing that Le Bail is indeed real, with a fleeting cameo by the producer, James Vanderbilt, confirming his presence. His curses manifest with explosive results, leaving no doubt about his sinister nature. While the film stops short of labeling him as the ultimate demon, the Le Domas family’s “Hail, Satan” chant strongly suggests his infernal status.

In “Ready or Not,” Le Bail is described as having struck a Faustian deal with Victor Le Domas. In exchange for immense wealth and fulfilling every desire of the Le Domas family, they are bound to a perilous game whenever someone new marries into the family. This is the predicament Samara Weaving’s character, Grace, finds herself in.

The sequel, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” expands on Le Bail’s reach, showing how his influence extends to the world’s most affluent and powerful families. These families revere him and adhere to his demands, participating in deadly games to avoid invoking his wrath. In return, Le Bail grants them unimaginable power, with the leader of his council effectively ruling the world.

While the mystery of Mr. Le Bail’s name might intrigue some, it’s not so mysterious for those who noticed that it’s an anagram for Belial, a name synonymous with Satan or the Devil in the Old Testament. The term suggests malevolent or immoral behavior.

In Christian theology, the Devil famously appears as a serpent, tempting Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, leading to their expulsion from Eden. This depiction of the Devil as a master deceiver has endured in literature and media, where he embodies the ultimate temptation that draws humanity away from righteousness.

Ready or Not’s Le Bail is an anagram for Belial

Everyone loves a good mystery, but there’s none when it comes to the origin of Mr. Le Bail’s name in the “Ready or Not” movies. A few smart folks picked up that it’s an anagram for Belial, which is another name for Satan or the Devil in the Old Testament. The actual meaning of the word signifies wicked or amoral behavior.

In Christian theology, the Devil takes the form of a serpent and tempts Adam and Eve, which results in them eating the forbidden fruit and being booted out of the Garden of Eden. The portrayal of the Devil as the great deceiver is something that has followed in literature and other adaptations, as he symbolizes the ultimate temptation for humanity and leads them away from the light.

Unsurprisingly, Le Bail is portrayed in a similar way in “Ready or Not.” He offers great riches and unfathomable power to all those who desire it, but there’s a price to pay in the end: it costs them their soul and morality. The elite don’t seem to mind that much, but Grace — one of the best final girls in horror movie history — continues to reject Le Bail’s offer.
