A University of Kentucky student and cheerleader has been arrested following the discovery of her newborn’s remains in a trash bag inside a closet, as per official reports.
Laken Snelling, aged 21, was apprehended on Sunday, August 31, after police responded to a call about an unresponsive infant at a home on the 400 block of Park Ave., near the campus. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., four days prior, stated a release from the Lexington Police Department.
Officers at the scene found the infant “wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” according to a police citation obtained by WLWT.
Snelling is the birth mother of the child, according to the Lexington Police Department.
The infant’s cause of death will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
