Laken Snelling, a 21-year-old student at the University of Kentucky and a member of the STUNT team, has left the university, as confirmed by a school representative.
“She withdrew last week,” stated Jay Blanton, Vice President for University Relations and Chief Communications Officer at the University of Kentucky, in a statement to Oxygen.
With her withdrawal, Snelling is no longer associated with the STUNT team. “STUNT is a competitive team within athletics,” Blanton clarified. “They are separate from cheerleading. Cheerleading does not hold the status of a varsity sport at UK or within the NCAA.”
What is Laken Snelling charged with?
According to a Lexington Police Department statement, Snelling, the mother of the deceased infant found in a closet, faces charges including abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing an infant’s birth.
Following a call about an unresponsive infant, she was arrested on August 31 when police responded to a Park Ave. residence near the university on August 27 at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Officers at the scene found the infant “wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag,” according to a police statement obtained by WLWT.
What did Laken Snelling infant’s autopsy reveal?
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office issued a report last week indicating that a “preliminary autopsy has been completed; the findings are inconclusive.”
“Extensive microscopic analysis are essential to determine the cause and manner of death,” the report added. It revealed that the infant was male and noted the date of death as August 27.
Where is Laken Snelling now?
After pleading not guilty and posting a $100,000 bond, Snelling is now on “home incarceration with no ankle monitor” and is “to live with parents,” LEX18 reported, citing a court citation.
