Inside 'Balinese princess' Lindy Klim's VERY dark family past

Lindy Klim (née Rama) has long been proud of her heritage as Balinese royalty, despite being raised in Australia from the age of three.

Nonetheless, a shadowy history lies beneath the socialite’s noble lineage and her late great uncle, Ida Cokorda Pemecutan XI, known as the last reigning king of Denpasar.

Cokorda Pemecutan XI passed away from heart failure on December 22, 2021, at 76, leaving behind four children along with a hidden criminal past that many do not know about.

While 45-year-old Lindy has often flaunted her royal connections to Cokorda Pemecutan, she has never mentioned—or may not even be aware of—his earlier conviction for murder.

Cokorda Pemecutan spent a year in Kerobokan Penitentiary in Denpasar for the murder of his stepbrother Anak Agung Ngurah Putu Paranacita on November 11, 2003.

According to records released by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, the late king stabbed Paranacita with a sword amid a family argument.

Paranacita died on the way to hospital and Cokorda Pemecutan surrendered himself to be arrested by police when they arrived at the scene.

While the criminal history of Lindy’s family member may be news to Aussies, those in Bali are very familiar with the incident.

One insider told Daily Mail the murder and Cokorda Pemecutan’s subsequent time in prison is ‘very well known’ in the tourist hotspot.

‘All Balinese know about it,’ the source said, adding that the story was in the Indonesian headlines for some time.

‘I’m actually quite surprised that this has never been reported on in Australia before. Particularly now that she [Lindy] has returned.

‘I travel to Bali frequently, and it’s common knowledge.’

Lindy lived a life of luxury in Bali for fifteen years, but returned to Australia in February after her split from property developer Adam Ellis.

A source mentioned they were ‘uncertain of the motive’ behind Cokorda Pemecutan’s act of killing his brother, but ‘could only speculate it involved money, land, and power’.

However, there is a very dark past behind the socialite's royal blood and her late great uncle, Ida Cokorda Pemecutan XI, who was the last king of Denpasar in life

However, there is a very dark past behind the socialite’s royal blood and her late great uncle, Ida Cokorda Pemecutan XI, who was the last king of Denpasar in life

Daily Mail can reveal the insider wasn’t far off their guess.

Cokorda Pemecutan, who is the uncle of Lindy’s father Anak Agung Oka Rama, reportedly killed his stepbrother during an argument over a boundary wall.

The King of Puri Pemecutan Bali, real name Anak Agung Ngurah Manik Parasara, and his family members got into a heated fight over construction on the palace grounds.

Cokorda Pemecutan wished to build a boundary wall at Pemecutan Palace, while several of his brothers fought the construction plans.

They accused the late king of attempting to control the palace grounds, which they claimed rightfully belonged to the entire royal family.

As a form of protest, the family members who disputed the wall—most of whom were brothers in one form or another to Cokorda Pemecutan—forcibly tore it down.

A family meeting was quickly called between the king, his brothers, and his son, but the heated debate quickly deadlocked and turned violent.

Local news reports at the time suggested Paranacita ended up in a physical fight with Cokorda Pemecutan’s son Anak Agung Darma Negara.

Cokorda Pemecutan entered the fray when the altercation turned on his son, and was promptly beaten by his stepbrother, Paranacita.

According to court documents, Paranacita insulted Cokorda Pemecutan during the fight when he stepped on his head in a fish pond.

Officials stated the fight then ended, with Paranacita calling an end to the violence and demanding they speak civilly about the issue at hand.

But an enraged Cokorda Pemecutan refused to accept the olive branch and instead stabbed his stepbrother with a sword he kept mounted on a nearby wall.

The weapon, which was 74cm long, reportedly cut into Paranacita’s intestines, and he died on the way to the hospital.

Cokorda Pemecutan was immediately arrested when police arrived at the scene, but it would be 10 years before he was found guilty of murder.

He spent about three months in a detention centre and was released into house arrest until early 2005.

However, due to legal complications and processing times, Cokorda Pemecutan didn’t receive his final sentencing until 27 November, 2013.

He was found guilty of assault causing the death of a person and sentenced to three years in the notorious Kerobokan, which housed Schapelle Corby for nine years.

But Cokorda Pemecutan only served one year of his sentence, due to the time he spent in detention and house arrest following the murder of his stepbrother in 2003.

The last king of Denpasar was also ordered to pay court costs of 2,500 rupiah—which is currently worth less than an Australian dollar.

After his sentencing in 2013, Cokorda Pemecutan wasn’t taken to prison until 2014, and was released on the morning of 11 May, 2015.

Cokorda Pemecutan died six years later and was considered a spiritual leader and advocate of religious tolerance at the time of his passing.

His extensive cremation ritual, held in the first week of January 2022, went for six days as he was celebrated by fans and family.

It’s unclear if Lindy attended the cremation ceremony as she was not raised alongside the royal family as a niece of Cokorda Pemecutan.

Lindy and her mother, Frances Parker, moved to Tasmania when she was three years old following her parents’ divorce.

She has previously said she had no contact with her father growing up, and looked to her maternal grandfather, Des, and stepfather, Mike, as father figures.

Her father, Anak Agung Oka Rama, died of heart problems shortly after Lindy’s eldest child, daughter Stella, was born in 2006.

Four years later, Lindy and her then-husband Michael Klim moved to Bali permanently, with the pair also sharing children Rocco, 16, and Frankie, 13.

Lindy then lived in the lap of luxury for 15 years, splitting from Michael in 2016 and going on to have her youngest child, Goldie, seven, with her second husband, Adam.

However, she recently made the move back to Australia, leaving behind all her possessions to start again Down Under following her second divorce.

She announced last Tuesday she and her daughter Stella will be appearing on the upcoming season of The Amazing Race Australia.
