The police in Maryland are reaching out to the community for assistance in finding the individual responsible for the shooting death of an 87-year-old philanthropist at a senior living community.
The Montgomery County Department of Police has shared a brief video clip capturing a person strolling around the senior residence on the same morning Robert Fuller Jr. was tragically shot in the head.
In a previous update from law enforcement, it was revealed that Fuller was found deceased in his apartment at the Cogir Potomac Senior Living facility, with the discovery made around 7:34 a.m. on February 14.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered Fuller unresponsive with significant head trauma. An assessment indicated that he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, Fuller was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case has been classified as a homicide.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance footage that captured an individual on the premises of the senior living facility at the time of the incident,” police reported. “This person is now considered a suspect in the investigation.”
Authorities have not been able to identify the suspect’s race or gender. The video released only shows the person of interest from behind as they walk around the grounds.
Police are hoping the video could provide a clue to the suspect’s identity noting, “Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the clothing worn by the individual, or who can identify any distinguishing characteristics, including the person’s gait, to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773- 5070 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County.”
Before his death, Fuller was a well-known philanthropist in Maine, once donating $1.64 million for upgrades to the Cony High School’s Alumni Field complex in Augusta.
The community is now mourning his loss.
“More than his philanthropy, Mr. Fuller believed in Augusta, in its people, its future, and its potential,” a spokesperson for the city told WMTW after his death. “He supported projects not simply as investments, but as acts of community stewardship. On behalf of the City Council, City staff, and the residents of Augusta, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Fuller’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Authorities are offering a reward between $250 to $10,000 for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
Oxygen reached out to the Montgomery County Department of Police for additional comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
