The stakes have never been higher on The Handmaid’s Tale.
This week’s episode, titled “Exodus,” features June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) and her fellow handmaids as they execute their most ambitious plan yet with Mayday. The handmaids infiltrate Serena Joy and Commander Wharton’s wedding to seek vengeance against the commanders who have oppressed them for so long. In their daring mission, they also manage to rescue several handmaids, some of whom might not have been assigned to commanders yet.
Not only do the women successfully complete their mission, but an unexpected encounter with Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) also hints at future developments for her character in the upcoming series The Testaments. This encounter could represent a pivotal moment for Aunt Lydia as June persuades her to reflect on her complex involvement in Gilead’s exploitative system. Might this lead to a transformation in Aunt Lydia’s outlook?
Such a climactic episode may leave fans wondering how much could be left in June’s story.
Here’s everything we know so far about the rest of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6.
How many episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale are left?
After this week’s episode, there are three new episodes left of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6.
After this episode, with the handmaids finally achieving a measure of justice and, for some, a sense of closure, it’s hard to predict what might unfold next. However, actress Madeline Brewer hinted that the season finale will undoubtedly go beyond the expectations of viewers.
“It goes a little wild there toward the end, and I think it’s what the fans have been waiting six seasons for — they’ve been waiting for revolution,” she told Variety. “We had a long resistance, we had a lot of building and building and really a slow burn to what is an outrageous revolution, truly, in the end.”
Max Minghella teased similarly, telling the press, “I think it will surprise audiences.”
Is this the last season of The Handmaid’s Tale?
