It’s time to boldly go back into Paramount+’s Star Trek extended universe.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to return for its third season on July 17, nearly two years after Season 2 wrapped up.

Strange New Worlds serves as a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969), chronicling the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew aboard the starship Enterprise in the decade preceding Captain Kirk’s command of the Enterprise.

This series includes younger versions of characters such as Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), and Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn) — all of whom were introduced in The Original Series.

As the new season unfolds, the Enterprise crew will embark on journeys to strange new worlds during their continued five-year mission. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman mentioned to Variety that Season 3 will carry on with the “genre-hopping” approach while the characters’ narratives evolve. In anticipation of Season 3, the show has already secured an early renewal for Season 4 and an order for a six-episode Season 5, which will mark the conclusion of Strange New Worlds.
