Carlo Ancelotti became the first manager ever to win the ‘big five’ leagues in Europe on Saturday, after he lifted the La Liga title with Real Madrid.

Los Blancos thrashed Espanyol 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday thanks to two goals from Rodrygo and one each for Marco Asensio and the bang-in-form Karim Benzema.

It took Ancelotti just one season to pick up the Spanish title on his return to Real Madrid, having gone without the La Liga title in his first stint from 2013-15.

It means he has now won the league title in Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France, becoming the first manager in history to achieve that feat.

The Italian has been winning league titles for 18 years now, first picking up the Serie A title in 2004 with AC Milan, and going on to win leagues with Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich: 2016-17

‘A lot of emotion, we have met a challenge,’ Ancelotti said. ‘The season has been spectacular. Lots of consistency. I have to thank the players for their work and their attitude.

‘Today we have to celebrate, not talk. I want to celebrate. It fills me with pride to win in the five major leagues. I can say that I like what I do. It means I’ve done pretty well.’

Real Madrid will not be looking to add the Champions League title to their silverware collection for the season, going into the second leg of their semi-final against Manchester City at home after losing 4-3 in England.
