Lukaku has not been included in today’s matchday squad following his recent explosive interview with Sky Italy.
He criticised Thomas Tuchel, revealed he’s unhappy at the current situation and discussed wanting a return to Inter Milan in the near future.
Before getting his career back on track at Inter, Lukaku netted 28 goals in 66 league appearances for Manchester United.
The 28-year-old failed to hit the heights expected of him though and Neville admits he wasn’t sad to see him depart in 2019.
‘I think he’s made absolutely the right call. I think if we’re looking at it from a neutral and a media point of view we can’t criticise Romelu Lukaku for being honest,’ he said on Sky Sports.
‘However, I have to say if I was a Chelsea manager, player, fan or owner I’d be absolutely furious.
‘I remember when he was at Old Trafford I didn’t feel he was committed at Old Trafford a few years ago and it’s your own club.
‘I didn’t feel he was committed at Old Trafford. I didn’t shed a tear when he left because I didn’t feel he was always professional.
‘He’s told the truth, it’s an uncomfortable truth and it’s very difficult to unravel the truth but I do think he [Tuchel] will reintegrate him over the next couple of weeks.
‘I don’t think he’ll cut his losses in January. I do think there will be some form of apology and contrition in the next week or so.
‘I think he’s done the right thing today. I think to not make a stand against a player who has done an interview like that in midweek would make him look weak and it’s what his fans would want from him as well.’
