Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has been ruled out of Scotland’s Euro 2020 opener against Czech Republic on Monday due to a minor injury.

The 24-year-old was expected to feature on Scotland’s left flank having formed an impressive partnership with Liverpool’s Andy Robertson.

But Tierney was not named in Steve Clarke’s matchday squad for their Group D opener against Czech Republic at Hampden Park.

‘Kieran picked up a little niggle through the week in training. Not ready for this one, hopefully ready for the next one,’ Clarke told BBC Sport.

The Arsenal defender was present for Scotland’s final training session on Sunday, although he sat out of one part of it due to his individual programme.

‘He’s on a different programme,’ Scotland’s assistant coach John Carver explained.

‘There are a few different players in the group on different programmes and he’s one of them.

‘Everybody is different and there were a couple of guys who didn’t train this morning to do their own little bits and pieces so everybody is fine.’

Since joining Arsenal from Celtic in 2019, Tierney has been hampered by injury. The left-back missed 19 games with a dislocated shoulder in his first season, while this term he was ruled out for six games due to a knee problem.

Following their opening fixture against Czech Republic, Scotland will play England on Friday before facing Croatia in their final Group D game on Tuesday.
