Cristiano Ronaldo made the tragic announcement on Monday that his baby son has passed away and both Manchester United and Portugal were quick to support the star forward during the heart-breaking time.

Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, were expecting twins but the Portuguese superstar confirmed that while his daughter was born, they lost their baby boy.

Manchester United tweeted: ‘Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano

‘Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.’

The Twitter account for the Portugal national team posted: ‘Muita força, capitão.’ Meaning: ‘A lot of strength, captain.’

The shocking news was posted to social media by Ronaldo, who described it as ‘the greatest pain that any parent can feel.’

‘It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away,’ Ronaldo wrote in his statement. ‘It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel.

‘Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

‘We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

‘Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.’

Ronaldo and Rodriguez revealed they were expecting again in October 2021.

He shares daughter Alana, three, with Georgina and also has son Cristiano Jnr, 11, and twins Eva and Mateo, four, via unknown surrogates in the United States.
