Petr Cech is personally endorsing Chelsea’s push to sign Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer, according to reports.

The 18-year-old is one of the most highly rated young midfielders in Europe and has attracted interest from several clubs including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Last month, reports in France claimed that United have already made an approach to Camavinga’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, about a possible deal this summer.

However, Chelsea have also entered the race for the Rennes midfielder and reports this week have claimed that the Champions League holders have also been in touch with the player’s representative.

But according to Le Parisien’s Julien Laurens, Cech is a ‘huge fan’ of Camavinga and the former Chelsea goalkeeper still has a strong relationship with Rennes’ hierarchy.

Last year, Cech played a key role in Chelsea’s decision to sign Edouard Mendy in a £22m deal from Rennes.

Cech, who returned to Chelsea as a technical and performance advisor in 2019, identified Mendy as the first-choice replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

‘As soon as Petr Cech and our technical team identified Edouard as the most suitable goalkeeper to complement our existing group, there was only one player we wanted to bring in,’ Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia after Mendy’s arrival in September.

Speaking last week, Rennes manager Bruno Genesio made it clear that the club would be open to selling Camavinga this summer.

‘We have already stressed several times that we cannot afford to remain in this situation concerning an international player like him,’ Genesio said.

‘It’s part of a career to have important decisions to make, he has a very important one [decision] to make for his future, and we at the club also have our interests to defend.

‘I hope we find a solution that everyone is satisfied with.’
