Newcastle United should make a late move for former Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic.

European football expert Andy Brassell expressed to talkSPORT that Newcastle United might benefit from attempting to acquire Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic.

Arsenal has admired the Serbian international for some time, but failed to acquire him in January 2022 when he moved from Fiorentina to Juventus.

The striker’s deal with the Old Lady expires next summer, and the Italian giants could be looking to cash in.

Newcastle are in desperate need of at least one striker this summer with Alexander Isak on strike and Callum Wilson having joined West Ham.

It leaves Will Osula as the club’s only first-team forward, though he didn’t start the Toon’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on the opening day.

Instead, Anthony Gordon led the line, while Eddie Howe has spoken about the need for a striker.

And Brassell thinks Vlahovic moving to St James Park would make sense.

Discussing Vlahovic’s tenure at Juventus on the Trans European Express, Brassell agreed that it hasn’t been successful, especially considering Vlahovic’s age. However, he mentioned that Vlahovic has had his moments.

“Obviously, he’s way too expensive, they are paying him 12 million a year, which he’s not going to get anywhere else outside Saudi.

Brassell suggested that there are a few Premier League clubs, specifically one in the North East of England, dealing with striker issues [Newcastle], which might benefit from pursuing Vlahovic.

“He only has a year left on his contract. Juventus have to sell him now, they won’t be charging a lot of money for him.”

What is the striker situation at Newcastle?

Isak has been the subject of a £110 million bid from Liverpool that was rejected immediately by the Toon.

The Reds are yet to come back with another offer and don’t intend to unless given encouragement that the Magpies would accept, talkSPORT understands.

Isak played no part in Newcastle’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa and has told the club he’ll never play for them again.

He is currently training on his own and is desperate to join Liverpool.

The Magpies are seeking two forwards in the remainder of the transfer window, allowing Isak to leave.

But they are being frustrated by Brentford in their attempts to sign Yoane Wissa.

The Bees have quoted Newcastle a price of £60 million until Brentford sign a replacement.

Dango Ouattara has arrived from Bournemouth in a deal worth £42.5 million, but he is seen as Bryan Mbeumo’s replacement.

Talks between Newcastle and Brentford are set to resume over Wissa this week.

According to talkSPORT, Nicolas Jackson is also a potential target for Newcastle. However, the Magpies are finding it increasingly difficult to secure a striker as time runs out.

They are yet to be linked with Vlahovic, but with his contract running down, and the Toon in need of a forward, it could be one to watch.
