Gary Neville has mocked Jamie Carragher for sharing fake news around William Saliba on social media.

Carragher reposted a message on social media from an account pretending to journalist David Ornstein, which suggested Saliba had suffered a hamstring injury and would be sidelined for seven weeks.

Saliba has been one of Arsenal’s most important players this season, starting every Premier League game in what appears to be another title chance for the Gunners.

And with Carragher’s hopes dashed, Neville was on hand to mock his Sky Sports colleague by sharing the repost from Carragher.

‘Awkward! Fake account! Calm down,’ Neville said, accompanied by a laughing emoji and a tag of Carragher.

The former Liverpool defender has since deleted the repost on his account.

Arsenal currently have the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 15 goals in 17 matches so far, equal with Liverpool.

Arsenal, however, have 39 points, one more than their weekend opponents with stakes rarely higher in such a game.

Carragher, who is a big supporter of his former side Liverpool, got ahead of himself in his thoughts that one of Arsenal’s key men would miss the match at Anfield.

IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify

Saliba missed an extended period of time last season, and his absence coincided with the decline of Arsenal’s form as their title challenge fell away, with Manchester City closing a hefty gap to lift the league.

The Frenchman has formed an impressive partnership with Gabriel this season, and no obvious replacement would be available should he suffer the same fate this term.
