We all want the best for our pet’s health and whether that means making a change to their diets, activities and routines then so be it.

Dog nutritionist, Cameron Wimble, who regularly shares his top canine tips on TikTok, says there is a common supermarket-bought item that has many health benefits, which you may never have been aware of.

“If you’re not feeding your dog frozen white fish then you’re missing a trick,” he declared in a video. “I’ve been collecting data on dogs for years now and white fish is the protein source which most dogs are able to digest.”

Cameron continued, explaining that if your dog has a problem with digestion or allergies, then white fish is the place to start. “Not only is it an easily digestible protein, it is low in fat and filled with omega-3,” he said.

The fish also boasts anti-inflammatory properties, meanwhile, and it’s relatively inexpensive too. “So get yourself down to the frozen food section,” Cameron instructed.

Writing in response, dozens of dog owners revealed how they’ve benefitted from adopting white fish into their pets’ diets. “My dog had terrible allergies so I changed his diet to white fish, sweet potato and peas,” one TikTok user said. “I buy it all frozen and all allergies and itchy skin all gone.”

A second person praised: “My dog has been eating that for years, with sweet potatoes and butternut squash, she had many problems before but has none now, 14 year’s old and fit as a fiddle.” A third added: “This is so true, my dog has a lot of food allergies I always get frozen white fish! It’s actually cheaper than all other meats! Just don’t get farmed.”

A fourth shared their success story: “Due to allergies I’ve been giving my Staffy white fish, mixed veg and turmeric, he loves it. I boil it and it’s helped with his allergies – he can’t have chicken and lamb as it’s a major trigger for his ears.”

Whilst fifth said: “Our 11th month old pup has a poultry allergy and super sensitive stomach, and we’ve been topping her kibble with white fish for months now and she wolfs it down!”

Backing up Cameron’s advice, meanwhile, healthy pet food provider, Nutriment states: “Fish has long been a staple part of a canine diet. Naturally low in fat and containing high-quality protein, raw fish is a great choice for optimal canine health. High-quality white fish is rich in nutrients such as Omega 3, vitamin D, selenium and vitamins B6 and B12. These are all essential nutrients which contribute to many different functions in the canine body.

“White fish is a biologically appropriate, natural and great-tasting protein source for dogs of all ages, sizes and breeds. Due to being very low in fat, it is particularly recommended for dogs who are overweight or prone to health conditions such as pancreatitis and colitis.”

If you’re unsure if something is safe to feed to your dog, speak to a vet.
