Harley-Davidson is recalling over 88,000 motorcycles spanning nine different models due to a potential oil ejection issue linked to pressurization concerns.
WASHINGTON — On April 28, Harley-Davidson announced a recall affecting more than 88,000 motorcycles. This decision was made after discovering that certain models might eject oil from the fill spout because of a pressurization problem.
The recall highlights a potential risk of injury stemming from a blocked airbox backplate breather port. This blockage can lead to pressure building up inside the crankcase, potentially causing oil to be expelled unexpectedly.
The affected models include the 2024-2026 FLTRX, FLHX; 2025-2026 FXBR, FLFB; 2025 FLHXU; and 2026 FLTRXL, FLTRT, FLHXL, and FLHLT, all equipped with the Airbox Baseplate, part number 29000373.
According to the recall notice, there may be one injury related to this issue, though details on the severity remain unclear. Furthermore, 192 incidents of the breather port being blocked were reported in March.
Harley-Davidson has stated that affected motorcycle owners will receive notification letters by mail starting May 11.
While 88,039 models are impacted by the recall, Harley Davidson anticipates only 0.4% will have the airbox backplate breather port blockage. It is described as a “supplier manufacturing issue.”
Owners may notice smoking from the exhaust system, excessive oil consumption, a detached breather hose, and/or an audible release of pressure when a dipstick is removed, the recall said.
All models should be inspected at dealerships. Repairs will be made free of charge, according to the recall.
