Cameron Menzies, a notable figure in the darts world, recently shared his battle with a heart condition, revealing he’s shed three stone in a bid to improve his health. The 36-year-old from Scotland is dealing with an ectopic heartbeat and elevated blood pressure. Ectopic beats, which are essentially premature or additional heartbeats, can lead to palpitations. With a family history of heart issues, the World Grand Prix quarter-finalist is taking proactive measures to ensure his well-being.

This revelation came after Menzies secured a 6-1 victory over Sietse Lap, advancing to the second round of the Belgian Darts Open. Ranked 29th globally, Menzies is relishing life more since embarking on this health journey, dedicating time to activities beyond the dartboard. Reflecting on an incident during the World Championships where he hit a table, Menzies confessed he had contemplated leaving the sport.

“Life is a lot better!” Menzies exclaimed following his first-round triumph. “I’m hitting the gym, and there’s something not many people know—I have a heart issue along with high blood pressure and an ectopic heartbeat.”

“It’s fairly common, as heart issues have always run in my family. My weight was concerning; I was 21 stone, now I’m down to 18.”

“Hopefully, I’ll continue to lose more weight as I’m focusing on taking better care of myself, as per the doctor’s advice.”

“Overall, life is in a much better place compared to three or four months ago. I’m also undergoing hypnotherapy, which is making everything a bit easier.”

“When things become complicated and hard, you break it down into smaller problems. You deal with smaller problems better than you do with the big ones. So life is good at the moment.”

Menzies could not make it past Ross Smith in Beligium, but has made a steady start to the year. ‘Cammy’ has made the third round of the Poland Masters and the last 32 at Players Championship Five.

The 36-year-old is pleased with his current form but knows what he must change to improve his results.

He said: “The result today is the most important thing. I was nervous, and I wanted to win more than anything else.

“I have not had a great start to the year, but I do think I am playing well at the moment. I feel like I am trying too hard, but that could be because of the territory I am in.”
