This is the hilarious moment TV presenter Michael Mosley tried TikTok’s viral ‘skinny girl shot’ – and got more than he bargained for.

In a clip from this week’s episode of Channel 4’s Michael Mosley: Secrets of Your Big Shop, the British health presenter used staple kitchen items to create the drink which is purported to help people lose weight.

According to Atlanta content creator Riley Madison, the wellness shot which contains apple cider vinegar, lemon and cayenne pepper should be consumed every morning before meals to help lose weight – with recipe videos so far amassing almost 4 million views on TikTok.

While he prepared the drink, Michael raised his suspicions about whether the ingredients would actually do anything to alter your weight.

After making the beverage, the expert took a swig before immediately wincing as he branded it ‘revolting’ and likened the taste to ‘acid’.

He said: ‘Time to try out skinny girl shots. The claim is this will help you lose weight and make you “snatch” – which apparently means you’ll be slimmer and better looking.

Skinny Girl Shots recipe

A jug of water

1 lemon (squeezed)

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

A dash of apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons turmeric

A sprinkle of black pepper

1 teaspoon honey (or add more to sweeten)

In the show, Michael mixed together the recipe’s ingredients of water, one lemon, two teaspoons of cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, two teaspoons of turmeric, black pepper and honey.

While explaining the process, he noted that too much apple cider vinegar could strip the enamel from your teeth, and that the amount of cayenne pepper in the recipe was unlikely to improve your metabolism.

He continued dryly: ‘This whole concoction is presumably utterly vile so you put in some honey to sweeten it.

‘Honey is of course calories so it’s unlikely to make you slimmer, but it does have some antibacterial properties.

‘[Add] a little squirt of lemon – maybe a whole lemon – I’m just going to put in a squirt.’

As he took a look at the tiny glass in front of him, Michael said: ‘It doesn’t look good does it?’

He continued to suggest that the concoction of ingredients ‘will certainly have no effect whatsoever on your weight’.

He then stirred the contents together in a transparent jug before pouring a small helping into a glass cup.

‘The question is, how does it taste?’ he continued. The presenter paused momentarily before mustering the courage to try it.

Drawing the glass closer to his lips, he swallowed a large gulp, before making an anguished sound.

‘That is astonishingly bitter with an incredible after burn,’ he said.

‘I feel like I’ve just drunk acid. A combination of that… and the pepper is just going up my nose and everything is burning at the moment.

‘I can only assume that you might burn off some calories by running, screaming around the house after having drunk this stuff’ he joked.

He then let out a huge cough before exclaiming ‘God I need some water!’

He insisted that there was no evidence the drink would make you lose weight or provide any health benefits.

He added that he couldn’t understand why anyone would drink it voluntarily.

‘That is really, really revolting!’ he remarked.

‘So my marks out of 10 for this one? I give it a zero – no surprises here’. He then continued to cough his way off camera.

According to influencer and mother Riley Madison, skinny girl shots are ‘amazing’ for increasing immunity and helping to ease bloating and allergies.

The 24-year-old conceded that it tasted ‘nasty’, but argued it was worth the unpleasant taste because it is ‘so good for you’.
