Millions urged to check their freezers NOW amid dangerous salmonella outbreak

An outbreak of deadly salmonella has sickened more than a dozen people across 10 states, health officials have warned.

The CDC last week sounded the alarm about an outbreak of salmonella, a type of bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, cramps and vomiting.

The bacteria has been tied to four different frozen home delivery meals from wellness company Metabolic Meals.

The meals that might be contaminated are: Four Cheese Tortellini with Pesto Sauce and Grilled Chicken; Low Carb Chicken Teriyaki and Vegetables; Black Garlic and Ranch Chicken Tenders with Roasted Vegetables; and Sliced Top Sirloin with Roasted Peanut Sauce and Summer Vegetables.

These potentially affected meals were sent straight to customers’ homes during the week of July 28, 2025, and were marked with expiration dates from August 5 to August 8, 2025. Reported illnesses occurred between July 25 and August 15.

According to the CDC, 16 individuals have fallen ill due to the bacteria, and seven of them have required hospitalization. The actual number of cases might be greater than reported. Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded.

The patients affected are located in Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. California and Missouri are seeing the highest numbers, with three cases each.

The CDC said investigators are still working to determine the specific source of salmonella contamination.

Lot numbers of the affected products are 25199, 25202, 25205, 25203, 25199, 25202, 25203, 25204 and 25205.

Salmonella contamination often originates from foods tainted with animal feces, and it is frequently found in poultry, red meat, dairy, eggs, fish, fruits, and vegetables.

The CDC urged Metabolic Meals costumers to avoid eating affected products while the investigation is ongoing.

It also stressed the importance of washing items and surfaces that may have come into contact with the meal ingredients.

The CDC said in its statement: ‘Check your refrigerator and freezer for these products and throw them away or contact the company.’

Missouri-based Metabolic Meals is a home delivery meal service that focuses on ‘macro-friendly’ meals, according to its website.

It has 3,200 weekly subscribers across 48 states.

In its statement, the CDC mentioned that Metabolic Meals is collaborating with investigators and has ‘contacted customers directly who bought the listed meal types to notify them about the outbreak.’

Salmonella strikes 1.3million Americans every year, hospitalizes 26,500 and kills around 400. However, because salmonella often causes no symptoms and goes undiagnosed, case numbers are likely much higher.

Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps that begin six hours to six days after initial infection, according to the CDC.

While most people recover, children or older people may suffer deadly bloodstream infections due to having weakened immune systems.
