In a tragic incident on Sunday, a Florida mother has been taken into custody, accused of ending the life of her 6-year-old son.

Justine Mroz, aged 40, reportedly called 911 from her residence in Land O’ Lakes, confessing to the death of her son. According to WTSP, Mroz admitted to the dispatcher that she “snapped” and strangled her child after he became aggressive.

Following the heartbreaking event, Mroz is said to have sent apologetic messages to her relatives, acknowledging the gravity of her actions.

WFLA reports that the young boy, who was non-verbal and diagnosed with autism, was engaged in a repetitive behavior of banging his head on the floor while watching TV. Mroz allegedly attempted to calm him, but the situation escalated when he reacted by hitting and biting her.

Mroz is accused of describing to law enforcement how she restrained her son by placing herself over him and choking him with her hands until he ceased to move. Subsequently, she reportedly inflicted self-harm by cutting her wrists with razor blades before contacting 911, as detailed by WFLA.

Mroz allegedly told police how she got on top of her son and choked him with both hands until he became lifeless. She then got razor blades, cut her wrists, and called 911, WFLA reported.

According to police, Mroz revealed that she bought the razor blades two days earlier and had attempted suicide on Saturday after picking up her son from his father’s house.

Though initial reports identified Mroz as a teacher in Pasco County, school officials explained she was an itinerant. She was not an instructor in a particular classroom, officials said.

“She has been arrested by (the) Pasco Sheriff’s Office and will not be on any school campus,” school officials said in a statement issued to WFTV.

Mroz was charged with second-degree murder. She was ordered to remain in jail without bond during a court hearing on Monday.
