People told 'do not consume' mince pies amid 'health risk' fears

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall for certain mince pies due to potential health risks for individuals with specific allergies or intolerances. When such recalls occur, both the FSA and the retailer release a “product recall” notice detailing the risks and providing guidance for those who have purchased the affected products.

On Tuesday evening, December 23, the FSA announced that The Bakewell Bakery is recalling its Shallow Brandy Mince Pies. The reason for this recall is that these pies contain milk, which is not declared on the product’s label. This oversight poses a health risk to anyone allergic or intolerant to milk or milk derivatives.

The recall affects packages containing six pies, with best before dates of February 2, 3, or 4, 2026. In a separate statement, The Bakewell Bakery acknowledged the labeling error, stating: “We have identified that it has been labeled incorrectly.

“An allergen is missing. The product contains milk, which is not declared on the label. This may pose a risk to customers.” The bakery expressed apologies for any inconvenience and thanked customers for their understanding and cooperation.

The FSA advises consumers who have purchased these mince pies and have a milk allergy or intolerance not to eat them. Instead, they should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund, with no receipt required.
