NCAA: Ex-Temple Basketball Player Hysier Miller Bet on His Team to Lose Multiple Times

Hysier Miller, previously a guard for Temple, reportedly engaged in numerous bets on his own college basketball team, including a handful where he bet against them, as disclosed by the NCAA on Friday.

According to the NCAA, Miller placed 42 parlay bets amounting to $473 on games featuring Temple during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Notably, three of these wagers were against his own Temple Owls squad.

During this period, Miller, who was a starter for the Owls, utilized other individuals’ sportsbook accounts to place his bets, the NCAA reported.

While Miller has confessed to making parlay bets on Temple matchups, he asserts that he does not recall ever betting against his own team.

Jason P. Bologna, representing Miller, highlighted that the NCAA’s inquiry did not uncover any evidence of point shaving.

“Hysier provided complete access to his phone and bank records and addressed every question posed by investigators. Although he admitted to placing parlay bets, he firmly denied any involvement in point shaving. The NCAA’s conclusions reflect their belief that Hysier was truthful and fully cooperative,” Bologna stated.

Miller was not the only member of the Owls program to get implicated in illegal sports gambling. Former Temple special assistant coach Camren Wynter and graduate assistant Jaylen Bond were found to have bet on professional and collegiate sports.  Neither was found to have bet on Temple games.

The NCAA announcement comes after nearly three dozen arrests, including current and former NBA players and coaches, as part of an FBI crackdown on sports fixing and other illegal gambling activities tied to organized crime.
