In a dramatic turn of events during a home invasion in Jacksonville on Thursday afternoon, two individuals were injured, including one of the alleged intruders. This was confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office early Friday.

The incident unfolded around 2:06 p.m. in the 9100 block of 6th Avenue, as officers responded to a distress call, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Johnson reported.

When law enforcement arrived, they discovered the victim, a man in his late 30s, inside a vehicle parked in front of the residence.

Sergeant Johnson explained to First Coast News that the initial investigation indicates three masked suspects forced their way into the home, attempting to rob the occupant. During the confrontation, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in one suspect being hit by the victim’s return fire.

The injured suspect managed to crawl out of the house and was found in the front yard by the arriving officers. Both the victim and the wounded suspect were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition, according to Johnson.

Johnson said the suspect who was struck crawled out of the residence and was found in the front yard of the home when officers arrived. Both the victim and suspect who was shot were taken by to a local hospital in stable condition, according to Johnson.

The two other suspects fled the area on foot and are still outstanding at this time, Johnson said.

While on scene, Johnson said detectives reviewed surveillance video of the incident and spoke with “potential witnesses.”

According to JSO, the incident is believed to be isolated.

Anyone with information about what occurred is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS, or you can email them at jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org.
