Retreat or even more bloodshed: Putin's chilling message

Russian President Vladimir Putin says some proposals in a US plan to end the war in Ukraine are unacceptable to the Kremlin, indicating that any deal is still some ways off.
US President Donald Trump has set in motion the most intense diplomatic push to stop the fighting since Russia launched the full-scale invasion of its neighbour nearly four years ago.

However, the initiative has once more encountered challenging demands, particularly regarding whether Ukraine should cede territory to Russia and how it can be safeguarded against future threats from Moscow.

The Kherson Thermal Power Plant, responsible for heating over 40,000 residents, ceased operations on Thursday following relentless drone and artillery attacks by Russia, according to local reports.

Authorities are convening emergency meetings to explore alternative heating solutions. In the interim, tents have been set up around the city, providing residents with warmth and a place to charge electronic devices.

Further south, Russia launched drone attacks on Odesa, injuring six individuals and damaging civilian and energy infrastructure, reported Oleh Kiper, the head of the regional military administration.

In total, Russian forces fired two ballistic missiles and deployed 138 drones against Ukraine overnight, officials confirmed.

In the Russian-held section of the Kherson region, a Ukrainian drone strike on a vehicle resulted in the deaths of two men on Thursday, as stated by Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-appointed regional leader. Additionally, a 68-year-old woman sustained injuries during the attack.
