Authorities are currently questioning a relative as part of their investigation into the tragic demise of a couple.

LOS ANGELES — Late Sunday night, Rob Reiner and his spouse Michele Reiner were discovered deceased at their residence in Southern California, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The identities of the deceased were confirmed through sources from the Associated Press and the Los Angeles Times. A family member is under scrutiny as investigators seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the couple’s death.

The LAPD has characterized the incident as an “apparent homicide.”

Officers responded to a call about a “death investigation” at approximately 3:40 p.m., where they found the lifeless bodies inside the home.

Initially reported by NBC LA, this tragic news was subsequently verified by TMZ.

ABC News reported the victims — described as a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman by the Los Angeles Fire Department — were stabbed to death.

Robbery Homicide Division detectives are on scene investigating. Police told KABC no one is in custody.

The LA Times reported there was no forced entry into the home.

TMZ said firefighters were called to the home around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid. It’s unclear who called emergency responders. TMZ reported police were on scene 10 minutes later.

Reiner is long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”

His role as Meathead in the 1970s TV classic “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker catapulted him to fame.

A large police presence is at the home. No other information is known at this time.
