Liverpool have put forward an opening offer worth £10 million for Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a new left-sided defender as backup for Andy Robertson.

Lewis impressed for the Canaries at full-back last season, but wants to continue playing in the Premier League after Daniel Farke’s side were relegated to the Championship.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have launched a first official bid of £10 million, even though Norwich value the Northern Ireland international at £20 million.

The youngster is also being tracked by Crystal Palace, but is keen on a move to Anfield to play under German coach Klopp.

Lewis is willing to accept that he will play second fiddle to Robertson and views the Reds as the perfect place to continue his growth.

If a deal can’t be completed, Liverpool have identified Olympiacos left-back Kostas Tsimikas as a potential alternative.

The Reds are not expected to complete any major signings this summer due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis, unless they raise significant funds from player sales.

Klopp insisted last month that he is satisfied with the players at the disposal.

‘I am happy with my squad 100 per cent,’ said the German coach. I was last year when people wanted us to sign him and him but because of our reasons we did not do it.

‘It’s not that we don’t want to, we try to make the right decisions constantly and then COVID came. The situation changed and not for the better.

‘It’s not that we think we cannot improve with transfers, we do what is right for us and what we are able to do, that’s all.’
