POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd administered the oath of office to 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel from Texas, making him an honorary deputy sheriff for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
DJ Daniel, who is battling incurable brain cancer, has set a goal to be sworn in at 1,000 law enforcement agencies across the nation in an attempt to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. At the time of the ceremony, DJ had already been sworn in at 914 different agencies.
“For those of you who don’t know him, this is DJ Daniel,” said Judd. “Now you probably saw him at the president’s speech the other night before Congress, and unlike that night, everybody here stood up. Good people stand up and respect folks.”
The event featured a lighthearted exchange, with Sheriff Judd and others interacting with DJ. There were jokes and playful banter, highlighting DJ’s spirited personality.

Sheriff Judd acknowledged DJ’s accomplishment, noting his presence at a recent presidential address. He also emphasized the honor of swearing DJ in as an honorary Polk County deputy.
DJ was presented with a badge, a plaque, a hat, and a Jeep bobblehead during the ceremony. The event was attended by various individuals who offered their support and congratulations.
The ceremony concluded with plans for attendees to line up and shake DJ’s hand as a gesture of respect and congratulations.
