URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A handful of popular Champaign County restaurants are expanding into a new space north of Downtown Urbana.

Drew and Jessica Smith, who own the venue, aim to launch “The Yard on Broadway” for public access in June. Currently, teams are putting the finishing touches on tasks like adding visuals to the walls and organizing sections of the menus.

All the restaurants are owned locally, with many having begun as food trucks. Watson’s Chicken, Main Scoop Ice Cream, Columbia Street Cafe, Fernando’s, Public House 1833, Smith Burger, along with a new pizza place named “The Regal Pig,” are set to establish themselves in Urbana shortly.

“We wanted to design a spot where our family would love to visit,” Smith explained. “Kids can enjoy themselves, while parents sip on a cocktail or coffee. There’s no need for arguments over food choices since there are numerous options and desserts available.”

He said this is an extra special feeling for he and his wife since they were both born and raised in Urbana.
