Iowa authorities reported that 88 children were placed into protective custody after a significant investigation at a church camp in Columbus Junction.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office conducted this operation from June 12 to June 13 at locations in Columbus Junction and Fredonia, towns situated around an hour from Cedar Rapids and approximately 2 miles apart.

The Kingdom Ministry of Rehabilitation and Recreation hosted the children for programs at Shekinah Glory Camp and another site, according to officials. The camp was slated to run from June 8 to June 29, as mentioned on the church’s website.

Officials executed search warrants at two properties after receiving reports of possible child abuse. During the operation, all 88 children were placed into protective custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

The minors were temporarily housed at a Methodist church in Wapello, about 15 miles southeast of Columbus Junction and Fredonia, where they met with child protection workers. KCCI reported that all children have since been reunited with their families.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no specific charges have been announced. State child protective services and criminal investigators are assisting, in addition to the Columbus Junction Police Department.

Per its website, Kingdom Ministry says its mission is “assisting individuals in breaking free from addiction through God’s Word, offering food and shelter to those in need, and supporting individuals during fasting and prayer.”
