VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – On Wednesday afternoon, a tragic single-vehicle accident claimed the life of an 88-year-old man in Volusia County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 1:17 p.m. at the intersection of US-1 and South Nova Road, according to the authorities.
Details from the crash report reveal that a Ford Fusion was heading north on U.S. 1, just south of South Nova Road, when it inexplicably veered off the road to the left. This maneuver led the car’s rear bumper to collide with a ditch.
The report continues, stating that the vehicle then crossed back onto the road, only to veer off to the right, where it hit a tree branch with its front windshield.
In a series of unfortunate events, the Ford proceeded to strike a utility pole before coming to a halt in the woodline.
The driver, an 88-year-old resident of New Smyrna Beach, was rushed to the hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
