TAMPA, Fla. (KSWB/KUSI) — Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have taken the next step in their relationship by getting engaged! The acclaimed singer-songwriter and Kansas City Chiefs player shared the exciting news on Instagram on Tuesday.

Since then, their announcement has taken the internet by storm, with the National Football League among those sending heartfelt messages.

“Congratulations to Travis and Taylor,” posted the NFL on Instagram, accompanied by white heart and ring emojis, along with a photo celebrating the couple’s engagement.

It’s a story that “happens once every few lifetimes,” as Swift’s song “The Alchemy” goes.

Swift’s album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” released last year, is speculated to reference Kelce, featuring nods to football and triumphs both in sports and life.

“They said there was no chance trying to be the greatest in the league. Where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me,” Swift sings.

July 2023

Appearing on the podcast “New Heights,” co-hosted by Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, Travis shared that he attended one of Swift’s shows and intended to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number.

September 2023

Rumors began circulating in September that Swift and Kelce were “talking” and hanging out, but not officially dating.

During an interview with NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano, Kelce was questioned about whether he truly tried to hand Swift a bracelet with his number. He confirmed, “I said what I said, and I meant what I said when I said it,” but declined to elaborate further.

October 2023

Swift was spotted at the Chiefs vs. New York Jets game on October 1 at MetLife Stadium, accompanied by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sabrina Carpenter, and other stars.

A few days later, Kelce was interviewed about his connection to Swift at the Chiefs’ practice facility.

“As all the attention comes, it feels like, you know, I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now, even more on top of the world,” he said. “It’s fun.”

The couple later appeared in public and made surprise appearances on Saturday Night Live. The first “kissing” photo of Kelce and Swift came out on Oct. 23 as Chiefs player Mecole Hardman, Jr.’s girlfriend Chariah Gordon shared a slideshow of both couples together on Instagram. The second photo of the slideshow shows Swift kissing Kelce on the cheek.

Kelce flew to Argentina to visit Swift during the international leg of her Eras Tour. She was later seen kissing Kelce after the end of a show.

Swift and Kelce were seen together multiple times throughout the holiday season.

January 2024

The Chiefs won the AFC Championship game and Swift was seen kissing her beau on the field.

Kelce was also heard saying, “I love you so much, it’s not even funny.”

February 2024

Kelce confirmed he had heard “The Tortured Poets Department” but said he would leave any further announcements regarding the album to Swift.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl. Swift was seen celebrating with Kelce and others at the Chiefs Super Bowl afterparty.

March – April 2024

Kelce and Swift spent quality time together post-football season and “The Tortured Poets Department” officially dropped on April 19.

May 2024

Kelce flew to Paris, France, to watch Swift perform the European leg of her Eras Tour and enjoyed time together at Lake Como.

Both Kelce and Swift get nominated at the 2024 Kids’ Choice Awards, with the singer nabbing the most nominations of the night at six, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Global Music Star, Favorite Ticket of the Year and two for Favorite Music Collaboration.
