In Carter County, Tennessee, the Carter County Recovery Group organized a prayer vigil this morning at Hampton Elementary School to commemorate the year since Hurricane Helene impacted the region.

The vigil, which included a candlelit ceremony, drew over 100 people.

The event was a moment for reflection and gratitude, acknowledging the volunteers, churches, and organizations that provided aid and united the community through spiritual readings, worship songs, and personal stories.

Four pastors were present to offer special sermons for those affected by the disaster. They spoke on “Testimonies of Resilience,” “God’s Provision,” “Strength for the Weary,” and “Hope for the Future.”

Pastor Jason Payne of Carter County prayed, “May anxiety and depression be replaced by the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding; may He guard our hearts and minds in Christ for His glory, and it is in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”

One couple in particular, Carley and Geren Street, reflected on the positivity they’ve gained in life after having their home flooded.

“Though it was a challenging period, it reminded us of our blessings and revealed that we have a community where God’s presence is active,” reflected Geren.

His wife, Carley, said they continue to rebuild a year later and choose to remain positive.

“Reflecting on our past and recognizing our present situation reminds us of the importance of prayer for everything we’ve been through, as well as for the future ahead,” said Carley.
