ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — A man from Abingdon, Virginia, is facing numerous charges such as strangulation and kidnapping following a reported shooting incident on Tuesday.
The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) issued a news release stating that deputies reacted to a domestic violence report involving a severe physical altercation and a firearm near Denton Valley Road.
Deputies found the victim’s vehicle and evidence consistent with the report, including bullet holes, the WCSO stated.
The suspect, identified by police as Dewey G. Johnson, was interviewed and later arrested.
Johnson, 67, was charged with the following, according to the sheriff’s office:
- Stangulation
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Attempted malicious wounding
- Shoot or throw a missile at law enforcement/emergency vehicle with malice
- Firearm use in commission of a felony
- Kidnapping
A search warrant at Johnson’s home uncovered firearms. The investigation revealed that Johnson is a convicted felon and is legally barred from owning a firearm, according to WCSO.
As of Thursday, Johnson is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
