Alaska Airlines grounded all its flights due to an undisclosed technical error affecting its entire system, the carrier announced early Monday.

“We are currently encountering an IT disruption that is affecting our services. We have requested a temporary, comprehensive ground stop until the issue is resolved,” stated the Seattle-based company through a social media update. It advised customers to verify the status of their flights before arriving at an airport.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website, a ground stop for Alaska Airlines was established at all airports starting shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday following a request from the airline. Another update on the FAA site reported a ground stop for all Alaska’s mainline and Horizon aircraft, which is an Alaska Airlines subsidiary.

Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board commended the crew of Alaska Airlines flight 1282 for the safe survival of passengers when a door plug panel was dislodged shortly after takeoff on January 5, 2024. This incident left a hole in the plane, causing items to be sucked out from the cabin.

In September, Alaska Airlines said it grounded its flights in Seattle briefly due to “significant disruptions” from an unspecified technology problem that was resolved within hours.
