OCALA, Fla. – A boil water notice was issued for parts of Ocala on Monday, according to a news release.

Ocala Water Resources Department officials announced a notice for residents located between NE 23rd St. and NE 14th St., west of NE 30th Ave., and east of NE 22nd Ave. due to a disruption caused by a water main break.

According to the release, the boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.

Officials said that customers will be notified when water conditions have returned to drinking water standards.

The department advises residents to boil their water before using it for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes, or preparing food until further notice is provided.

Boil water vigorously for one minute and let it cool before use or use bottled water. Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

For further details, you can reach the City of Ocala Water Resources Department at 352-351-6772. The Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 offers general guidelines on reducing the risk of microbial infection.
