WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WCIA) — In a significant achievement, the Illini secured back-to-back victories against Purdue for the first time since the 2001-02 season, capturing the Cannon trophy with a 43-27 triumph on the road. This win boosts their season record to 5-1.
Luke Altmyer threw for a career-high 390 yards, completing 19-of-22 passes and one touchdown.
His top target of the day was once again Hank Beatty. He caught five passes for 186 yards and one touchdown.
Ca’lil Valentine led the Illini in rushing with 95 yards and one touchdown. Kaden Feagin rushed for just 16 yards. Aidan Laughery had zero carries.
David Olano once again came up big in the kicking game, going 5-for-5 on field goals.
The Illini outgained the Boilers in total yardage 507-453. Illinois went 2-11 on third down conversions, while Purdue went 5-13.
Next Saturday, the Big Noon Kickoff returns to Champaign for the second time this season, featuring a morning showdown against the reigning national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
