TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — AquaFence, the company responsible for the flood protection technology that safeguarded Tampa General Hospital during last year’s hurricanes, is establishing its presence in Tampa.

The Norway-based company provides flood barriers to protect critical infrastructure, facilities, commercial properties and more.

The company will set up a 3,500-square-foot office in the Thousand & One office tower situated in Tampa’s Water Street area. According to a news release, the relocation to Tampa aligns with the increased demand for AquaFence’s technology both in the region and throughout Florida.

“With an expanding client base and strong ties with local stakeholders such as TGH and SPP, establishing a base in Tampa was a logical progression for AquaFence,” said AquaFence CEO Michael Juuhl in a statement. “Thousand & One provides the perfect setting for our U.S. expansion— strategically positioned within the medical and research district and poised to support the establishment of new client relationships.”

TGH President and CEO John Couris said in a statement that AquaFence plays a critical role in protecting the hospital and keeping it running during storms.

“AquaFence’s move into the Tampa Medical & Research District is a prime example of driving innovation in Tampa and recruiting companies that develop and produce groundbreaking solutions to real-world problems,” Couris said.
