SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A man has been arrested after an alleged homicide in Smyth County Thursday.
The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies went to the 400 block of Dry Cove Lane in Saltville following a report of a shooting. Officers from the Saltville and Chilhowie Police Departments were also present at the scene.
When law enforcement arrived, they found Michael Stonewall Blevins dead.
The sheriff’s office stated that Skyler Lee Chance Hughes, 26, of Saltville, was identified as the shooter in the incident.
Hughes was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Hughes was taken to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail located in Abingdon. The Sheriff’s Office mentioned that, as of Friday morning, he is being detained without the possibility of bond.
