The parents of Emmanuel Haro were apprehended on Friday, a little over a week after the 7-month-old was reported missing in California, as stated by the local authorities.
Jake and Rebecca Haro were detained at their home in Cabazon, California, according to police, although details regarding the arrests remain sparse.
“Investigators will continue their search for seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro,” police said.
Emmanuel’s disappearance was reported on August 14. His mother claimed to police that a stranger abducted him from a sporting goods store parking lot after knocking her out while she was changing his diaper.
Warrants were issued for cellphones belonging to the couple on Wednesday.
Authorities mention that Rebecca Haro chose not to continue interviews after they pointed out discrepancies in her account of Emmanuel’s disappearance, leaving the possibility of foul play still open. Jake Haro’s lawyer told “Banfield” on Tuesday that Haro is willing to aid the police, having provided all his electronic devices and passwords.
The lawyer mentioned that Rebecca Haro, who he does not represent, was willing to take a lie detector test with her attorney present, but terms could not be agreed upon. Meanwhile, Jake Haro’s attorney is in hiding due to receiving death threats.
Promise Faith, the sister of the missing infant Emmanuel Haro, suffered severe injuries at 10 weeks old, rendering her blind, mute, and unable to walk, as reported by journalist Abby Escobar.
Jake Haro pleaded guilty to willful child cruelty after Promise was admitted to a hospital with broken bones in 2018, according to the Orange County Register.
