AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A murder arrest warrant has been issued in connection with a cold case spanning two decades: the 2005 stabbing death of Catrina Beatrice Evans in her Augusta apartment.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, a warrant has been obtained for 56-year-old Juan Renardo Chunn.

On August 20, 2005, deputies were dispatched to 2445 Amsterdam Drive, Apartment 13-C, where they found Evans dead from multiple stab wounds. Her surviving one-year-old child was also found at the scene.

In July 2025, the case was re-evaluated, and a previously collected palm print from near the victim’s body was resubmitted to the GBI Department of Forensic Science Crime Lab. The lab identified the print as belonging to Juan Renaldo Tillman, also known as Juan Renardo Chunn.

Chunn is currently incarcerated at Columbus Correctional Institution in Whiteville, N.C., serving a life sentence for First Degree Murder. RCSO plans to press charges for the murder in this jurisdiction.

Evans’ family has been notified of the update, according to police.

“Our commitment extends to both ongoing and unresolved cases,” stated Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “Every victim is entitled to justice, and every family to closure. By utilizing today’s advancements in technology and resources, we can bring violent offenders to justice and protect our community from further harm.”

According to the sheriff’s office, additional information will be released “as this case proceeds through the judicial process.”
