Bringing Abrego Garcia back to US is 'political': His attorney

() The attorney of Kilmar Abrego Garcia tells that his client’s return to the United States is “political” in nature.

Benjamin Osario joined “CUOMO” on Friday to discuss the Trump administration bringing his client back to the United States to face trafficking charges.

Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was deported to El Salvador due to an administrative error, returned to the U.S. to face federal charges, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday.

“I think that they are counting on trying to get a conviction here that would satisfy a criminal bar to his stay of removal,” Osario said.

“So if they can accomplish a criminal conviction here, they have another way to sort of attack the immigration protection he had. So I think that’s the goal.”

Abrego Garcia faces two counts of unlawful transportation of illegal aliens for financial gain, and a third count for conspiracy. The charges stem from a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee in which Abrego Garcia was pulled over by state troopers and found to be in the vehicle with several other people traveling to Maryland.

In a news conference Friday, Bondi alleged Abrego Garcia is a trafficker of men, women and children. She said U.S. officials presented El Salvador government officials with an arrest warrant for Abrego Garcia, and they agreed to release him.

“Abrego Garcia is a danger to our community,” Bondi told reporters, adding, “This is what American justice looks like.”
