Mark Sanchez case 'rubs me the wrong way:' Attorney Jose Baez

() The case of the stabbing attack involving Mark Sanchez this past weekend isn’t sitting well with a celebrity lawyer.

“I’m not exactly sure it’s being covered the way perhaps it should be, or the questions that are being asked are the right questions being asked, I should say,” Jose Baez told ‘s Ashleigh Banfield on Tuesday.

Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback, allegedly attacked a truck driver in downtown Indianapolis. The driver told police Sanchez appeared to be intoxicated and tried getting into his truck.

When Sanchez wouldn’t back down, the driver pepper-sprayed him and stabbed him in what he says was self-defense. Both Sanchez and the victim were hospitalized.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” added Baez, whose former clients include Aaron Hernandez and Casey Anthony. “What does Mark Sanchez care about where a truck driver parks? That doesn’t make any sense.

“A lot of the evidence just doesn’t match up as far as I’m concerned. Mr. Tole’s the one who brought a knife to a fistfight, as well as pepper spray. So no one’s asking him any questions; that’s because he got beat up. But this could be a very solid self-defense case for Mr. Sanchez, as well.”

Drug test results will be crucial evidence in Sanchez case: Baez

Baez said the drug test results requested by police will play a pivotal role in the Sanchez case.

“I think the reason why they’re actually requesting it is to counter any potential defenses of self-defense,” he stated. “So if you can have a determination as to what his blood alcohol level was, you can actually make arguments as to how impaired Mr. Sanchez actually was.

“And there’s another thing that might also possibly come out in this, and that is he was at a bar previously. His drink could have been spiked by someone. He could have had something in his drink, and that might have affected his memory.”

Sanchez was also hit with a civil lawsuit Monday after the athlete was criminally charged with one count of battery resulting in a serious, violent injury.

The driver suffered a “severe laceration to the side of his face, penetrating all the way through his left cheek,” per court documents.

Mark Sanchez incident well covered by surveillance video: Prosecutor

A prosecuting attorney in the Sanchez case said Tuesday the area where the stabbing incident occurred had surveillance video from all angles.

“You have surveillance footage from multiple businesses that are in the area,” Marion County, Indiana, Chief Trial Deputy Ryan Mears told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”

“It took place in an alley between two separate hotels that also had pretty robust surveillance systems. And then there’s actually surveillance footage from the truck itself. We had a number of different camera angles which captured most of what took place on this particular day,” Mears added.
