LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bad Bunny, known for his dynamic blend of Latin trap and reggaeton, is set to take center stage at the NFL’s most prominent event next year. The acclaimed Grammy-winning artist will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show in Northern California.

The NFL, together with Apple Music and Roc Nation, announced on Sunday that Bad Bunny will be the main act for the halftime celebration at Levi’s Stadium on February 8 in Santa Clara, California.

This opportunity aligns with a major phase in the Puerto Rican artist’s thriving career. Recently, he completed a historic residency in Puerto Rico that captivated over 500,000 fans. He is also the top contender in the upcoming Latin Grammys in November. Known for his album “Un Verano Sin Ti,” entirely in Spanish, he ranks among the world’s most streamed musicians.

Expressing his emotions, Bad Bunny stated, “My feelings extend beyond personal achievement. It’s a tribute to those who paved the way for me to succeed… this moment is dedicated to my people, our culture, and our history. Tell your grandma, we’re the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”

Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, expressed that Bad Bunny’s contributions to Puerto Rico are nothing short of inspirational. “We are privileged to have him perform on the world’s greatest stage,” he noted.

At 31, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known globally as Bad Bunny, has earned three Grammys and 12 Latin Grammys. He has expanded the reach of Latin music internationally, appeared in films including “Bullet Train,” “Caught Stealing,” and “Happy Gilmore 2,” and collaborated with leading fashion brands. At the Latin Grammys, he leads with 12 nominations, surpassing producer-songwriter Édgar Barrera.

Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. Hamish Hamilton will serve as director.

Last year, Kendrick Lamar shined with guest SZA in New Orleans, setting the record for the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show with 133.5 million viewers. His performance surpassed the audience for Michael Jackson’s 1993 show.
