WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The individual accused of firing multiple shots at a victim in a Johnson City Waffle House has made a court appearance.
Raekwon Grimes, 25, surrendered to the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) on Tuesday. Authorities had previously identified Grimes as a suspect in the shooting that took place at the Waffle House on North State of Franklin Road around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
Officers discovered a person in the restaurant’s parking lot suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Grimes faces charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
During his arraignment in Washington County court on Wednesday, Grimes was assigned a public defender.
State prosecutors proposed a $100,000 bond, while Grimes’s defense requested a reduction due to his financial constraints. Nonetheless, the judge upheld the $100,000 bond, citing his previous convictions and missed court appearances.
Grimes is set to appear in court on Nov. 5, 2025.
