In Mountain City, Tennessee, an inmate at the Northeast Correctional Complex has received a life sentence for the murder of a fellow inmate.

Greg Barner, 50, was charged with first-degree murder in the 2023 death of Robert Henry Hicks Jr., 70.

An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation determined that Barner had fatally stabbed Hicks.

The district attorney’s office stated that Barner’s new life sentence will be added to his existing 30-year sentence for a murder committed in Knox County.
