SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The center of the intense heat dome is set to pass through our region in the coming days. We will remain Weather Aware on Sunday and Monday due to the severe heat conditions.

A Heat Advisory is active until 10 AM on Sunday, after which it transitions to Extreme Heat Alerts from 10 AM to 8 PM on Monday. An Extreme Heat WARNING will cover all of Jasper, Beaufort, Chatham County, as well as the coastal areas in Bryan, Liberty, and McIntosh County.

Further adjustments to heat alerts are expected later this evening and ahead of Sunday morning.

No matter which alert is issued in your vicinity, hazardous heat levels are anticipated. Temperatures are expected to rise into the triple digits, with oppressive humidity levels causing it to feel as though it is between 110° and 115° at times.

Prioritize time in a cool place with working air conditioning indoors above all else. If you have to be outside, make sure you are well-hydrated and wearing lightweight, loose, and reflective clothing.

Take frequent breaks indoors and keep an eye on yourself and others for signs of heat illness. If heat stroke sets in, immediate medical attention is crucial!

Monday will feature similar heat with an uptick in humidity. Heat stress accumulates over time so the same theme applies for the start of the week.

A Look Ahead

Temperatures gradually return closer to average as the week presses on. Storm chances are back Tuesday and more-typical heat, humidity, and daily rain chances persist through the week.

Tropics

The tropics remain quiet as strong trade winds and plenty of Saharan Dust are keeping the Western Atlantic Basin hostile to tropical development, despite some weak tropical waves east of the Caribbean.
